First Bite

Medical disclaimer

The content on First Bite — food pages, guides, age recommendations and preparation notes — is general information about feeding babies and toddlers, assembled from public health guidance (NHS, American Academy of Pediatrics, CDC). It is not medical advice, does not create a doctor-patient relationship, and cannot replace individual evaluation by a qualified clinician who knows your child.

Every child is different. Prematurity, food allergies, existing conditions, developmental stage and family history all change what is appropriate. For decisions about your baby’s diet — including when to start solids and how to introduce allergens — ask your pediatrician.

In an emergency, act first. If your baby is choking, having difficulty breathing, shows signs of a severe allergic reaction (swelling of lips or tongue, widespread hives, vomiting, lethargy), or any other acute symptom — call emergency services (911 in the US) and seek emergency care immediately. This website is not the right tool for any emergency.

We work hard to keep pages accurate and conservative, and every page cites its public sources — but guidance evolves and errors are possible. Use this site as a starting point and a memory aid (what you tried, when), not as the final word.
