How to serve, by age
6–8 mo
Wash, blanch, squeeze dry, then chop finely or purée into congee and rice cereal.
9–11 mo
Blanched and finely chopped into noodles or egg.
12 mo+
Chopped and stir-fried soft, or used as a filling.
Choking risk: Low
Long leaves tangle in the mouth and resist chewing — chop small early. Stems are firmer: add them to the pot first and cook longer.
If choking ever happens: act immediately — call emergency services (911 in the US) and seek emergency care. Do not wait.
Allergens
Bok Choy is not among the eight most common food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish). Any food can cause a reaction in principle — introduce new foods one at a time, during the day, and watch your baby.
Common questions
- Do leafy greens really need blanching?
- Blanching removes most oxalate and surface grit and improves the texture. It is a step worth keeping.
Practical tips
- Cut and cook greens fresh; holding or reheating turns them yellow.
- Bok choy, baby bok choy, lettuce — the method is the same.
